Adel, Iowa

Project Goal:
Conduct a comprehensive GPS survey of the City’s utility networks to provide daily workflow improvements for solutions to meet the City’s short-term and long-term needs.
Description:
Adel, Iowa is a progressive community located 25 miles west of the Des Moines metropolitan area. In 2014, the City was in the process of implementing a Capital Improvement Plan (CIP), which included numerous updates to the City’s utility infrastructure and the community had also seen a spike in population growth. The GIS data developed for Adel by another firm was inaccurate and not usable in assisting with short and long-term asset management planning and maintenance. The City selected Midland GIS Solutions based on qualifications to conduct a comprehensive GPS survey of the City’s utility networks.
Midland GIS Solutions utilized real-time kinematic (RTK) survey-grade GPS technology to GPS locate all of the designated features associated with the sanitary sewer, water and storm water utility networks. GPS field crews conducted comprehensive top-side manhole inspections on sanitary and storm water manholes and also GPS located curb stops to integrate into the waterline network.
Field personnel utilized Midland’s custom data collection application to ensure that all utility features and attributes were collected in a clean and consistent manner and seamlessly integrated into the geodatabase for GIS mapping. The geometric rules associated with this custom software auto-generated the sanitary and storm water line segments and included flow direction, slope and exact length measurements. Individual water main segments were assigned diameter and material attributes. The accuracy associated with the overall GIS mapping process was a top priority for Adel to ensure that the GIS program was reliable and utility networks were complete to move forward with engineering projects and long-term maintenance plans.
Today, the City utilizes Midland’s Integrity GIS solutions to view, share, analyze and manage their GIS data from any web-enabled desktop or mobile device. They rely on their GIS program on a daily basis, which has helped the City to reduce overall utility costs associated with asset management and maintenance activities.

Chanute, Kansas

Project Goal:
GPS locate, inspect and map the City’s sanitary sewer, water, storm water, gas, electric and telecommunications utilities so that Chanute can continue to adequately serve their growing population.
Description:
Midland GIS Solutions had previously provided software implementation and training to the City of Chanute.  This progressive community in Southeast Kansas prides itself in the quality of services it provides to its citizens.  The Sanitary Sewer, Water, Storm Water, Gas Distribution, Electric and Telecommunications networks are all owned and operated by the City of Chanute.
As one of the only cities in Kansas to provide all utilities at the municipal level, Chanute has invested strategically over the last several years in their infrastructure to accommodate a significant amount of commercial and residential growth.  This constant activity made it difficult for staff to record and track all the changes and updates within the systems, and Chanute utility management sought to implement new technology for maintaining their information.
In 2016, Chanute selected Midland GIS through qualifications-based selection to incorporate all of their GIS data and maintenance records into the Integrity™ enterprise web-based program that was efficient and easy for all city employees to utilize.  Once the city began utilizing the program and the ability to access utility data was fast and convenient, the staff soon realized how inaccurate some of the layers were.  While the electric had been mapping accurately in-house and many utilities had historical records attached, some of the other utilities had been digitized and converted from a CAD system without any field verification.
In 2017, Chanute again employed Midland GIS to provide RTK Survey-Grade GPS mapping and inventory collection on the water, sanitary sewer, gas distribution and telecommunications infrastructure.  Once the data was completely field verified and drawn to Chanute’s approval, Midland GIS integrated the updated information into the Integrity™ web-based GIS system.  From there, Chanute was able to start utilizing the asset management functionality within the Integrity™ system to track their activities such as water main breaks, gas leaks, transformer changeout, sanitary sewer cleaning and rehab, and fiber availability.

Macon Municipal

Project Goal:
Provide Macon Municipal Utilities with a comprehensive solution for multiple utilities to establish an asset management tool for one of the oldest infrastructures in the state of Missouri.
Description:
Macon Municipal Utilities (MMU) provides electric, water, wastewater, and natural gas utility services to the 5,500 residents living in the City of Macon, Missouri. MMU began its operations in 1890 and is one of the six (6) oldest public utilities west of the Mississippi River and third oldest in the State of Missouri. In 2011, MMU was seeking accurate locations of their infrastructure, along with inspections of their sanitary sewer network.
Midland GIS Solutions was selected by MMU based on qualifications originally in 2011 to GPS locate, inspect, and map their wastewater infrastructure utilizing RTK GPS technology. Midland also developed an Integrity GIS website for MMU to manage and maintain their GIS data. The website is utilized on a daily basis by Utility staff to analyze and query various data attributes and layers, and generate reports on gravity mains (flow direction, pipe size, pipe material, etc.), manhole conditions, and maintenance activities.
Following the implementation of the GIS program for the sanitary sewer system, MMU contracted with Midland GIS to have their primary electric network GPS located and mapped. These layers were added to the existing GIS database and integrated into the GIS website. In 2014, Midland GIS Solutions GPS located the remaining utility networks, which included water and natural gas. In 2018, MMU again selected Midland GIS to provide city street light inventory and mapping.
Today, MMU has a comprehensive utility GIS program and web-based GIS site with mobile capabilities to access data on their entire utility infrastructure. Utility personnel have the ability to access critical utility information in case of a natural disaster, water main break, power outage, or natural gas leak. Staff can also link documents or media, such as as-built maps, drawings, pictures, videos, etc. to features in the GIS program.

Perry, Iowa

Project Goal:
Re-develop Perry’s inaccurate GIS for the City to be able to utilize the data moving forward for educated decision making when it comes to utility management.
Description:
The City of Perry, Iowa entered into GIS in 2006 with an engineering firm that provided GIS services. The City struggled to utilize the GPS data they received for managing their utilities and years after the initial program was created, Perry learned the data they were provided was not accurate and essentially useless in developing a comprehensive utility management program for their community. In addition to having inaccurate data, the City also had an aging utility staff nearing retirement.
The City of Perry wanted to take an active role in the re-development of their GIS program and hired Midland GIS Solutions to re-locate all utility assets for water, sanitary sewer and storm water networks utilizing RTK GPS units. For the first time the City of Perry had a true depiction of their water, sewer and storm water networks.
The goal of the city was to have all of their utility data centrally stored in one virtual location, but exist in a multi-user environment. Midland GIS Solutions developed an Integrity™ web GIS program for the City of Perry so that data could be accessed by multiple, authorized users. Maintenance of the City’s GIS program is streamlined with Integrity’s editing features.

Girard, Kansas

Project Goal:
Provide a comprehensive GIS program for the City to utilize for GPS location of all utility features with asset management capabilities.
Description:
The City of Girard, Kansas made connections with Midland GIS Solutions in 2013 with a need to get their electrical network located and mapped with asset management implementation. Having received an electrical grant that same year, the green light was on for Midland GIS to get to work.
Using mapping-grade GPS methods, Midland GIS located and conducted inventory and inspection of the electric utility network contained within the defined project limits. The technology resulted in decimeter-level accuracy (+/- 4 inch) of GPS positions on utility features. Captured features through GPS surveys included all features designated by Girard during the planning phase of the project.
A web-based GIS site was set up for the City in IntegrityTM, a web-based and mobile software solution provided by Midland GIS to edit, maintain and analyze GIS data. With built-in workflows for daily operations and utility asset management for municipal government, Girard staff can quickly access their mapping data on any computer or mobile device with offline capabilities.
Pleased with the work done by Midland, Girard reached out again in 2015 for sanitary sewer and again in 2016 for water network mapping and inventory and inspection services. Altogether Midland mapped and took inventory on over 7,500 assets spread across over 1,500 acres. The entire data collection was implemented into the user-friendly Integrity program for City staff to access it anytime, from anywhere.
Today Girard uses Integrity to schedule and budget infrastructure maintenance plans, get periodical gravity main and water main reports. With just a few clicks administration can even relay the information to staff in the field for tasks to complete.

Audrain County, MO

Project Goal:
Completely re-map the county’s land parcels and integrate the data into a comprehensive, countywide GIS program to support various county departments and overall land records management.
Description:
The assessor’s office in Audrain County, Missouri was in the midst of a CAMA database provider change in 2016 when county administration reached out to Midland GIS Solutions about transferring its existing GIS into a web-based program for a more user-friendly solution.
Midland GIS was awarded the contract later that same year, and transferred the county’s existing GIS data into Integrity, a web-based solution provided by Midland GIS. Integrity allows users to easily access and edit their data in a secure, reliable and multi-user environment. HTML5 technology, routinely utilized in Integrity, ensures that Audrain County staff has access to their GIS data from any computer or mobile device.
Audrain County staff were pleased with the robust features provided by Integrity, but knew the original data provided to Midland GIS had inaccuracies. The county contracted with Midland GIS again in 2019 for a countywide reconstruction project to ensure the GIS data was accurate moving forward. The project included Midland GIS reconstructing nearly 15,000 real estate parcels. The project also included Midland GIS creating a data layer for culverts and small structure bridges to assist the county’s engineering department. The project is set for completion in late 2020.
Upon completion of the reconstruction project, Audrain County is guaranteed a clear and accurate overview of property assessment throughout the entire county. The engineering department will also have a way to maintain and edit data as a way to track, schedule and budget replacement and rehab projects moving forward.

Camden County, Missouri

Project Goal:
Completely re-map the county’s land parcels and integrate this data into a comprehensive, countywide GIS program to support various county departments and overall land records management.
Description:
Camden County had a growing concern about the accuracy and maintenance of their GIS data and selected Midland GIS to re-map the County of approximately 67,800 parcels. GIS technicians compiled relevant research and existing GIS data to remap the cadastral data in the new GIS program. With Camden County’s location and proximity to the Lake of the Ozarks, special data layers were developed in the GIS program, including a condominium point layer, Ameren UE shoreline management plan data, FEMA flood plain layer and a lake layer with lake centerlines and mile marker features.
Midland’s map maintenance model and ongoing parcel maintenance was a critical part of this project due to the large number of map changes throughout GIS development. Midland’s staff of experienced GIS technicians completed map maintenance on a monthly basis and kept an open channel of communication with the Camden County Assessor’s office to ensure accuracy and efficiency in parcel maintenance, map updates and overall GIS data development.
Camden County had contracted with Midland GIS in 2010 to develop and implement a web-based GIS site that would allow users to efficiently access and analyze their GIS data in a reliable, multi-user environment. When the mapping project was completed, all data was integrated into the web-based GIS program.

Colby, Kansas

Project Goals:
To advance the City of Colby from CAD and paper maps to a comprehensive and responsive GIS program for multiple utilities.
Description:
The City of Colby, Kansas was interested in transferring their CAD drawings into an active and web-based GIS program through Midland GIS Solutions.
Beginning with electric and water in 2015, Midland not only located and mapped the City’s infrastructure, but collected inventory and inspection data that was integrated into a complete asset management geodatabase through IntegrityTM. Integrity is Midland’s web-based and mobile software solution to edit, maintain and analyze GIS data to create built-in workflows for daily operations and utility asset management for municipal government. With all of this into one site, the City can quickly access their mapping data on any computer or mobile device.
In the years to follow Colby hired Midland to collect data on sewer along with updating network features and implementing them into the existing geodatabase. Inspection of all sewer attributes were included and also imported into the GIS program. Altogether the projects in Colby consisted of nearly 15,000 assets across 10,300 acres.
After Midland’s completion of the projects, Colby was able to start utilizing the asset management functionality within the Integrity™ system to track their activities such as water main breaks, leaks, transformer changeout and sanitary sewer cleaning and rehab.

Farmington, Missouri

Project Goal:
Set up a centralized web-based GIS solution for the City on multiple utilities complete with asset management capabilities and data accuracy that will be model-ready for future engineering purposes.
Description:
Located just 70 miles southwest of St. Louis, MO, the City of Farmington, MO had maintained their utility data in CAD for years and decided to implement a more accurate utility mapping program, as well as a centralized web-based system to keep track of maintenance and operational activities. In 2012, Farmington selected Midland GIS based on qualifications to GPS locate and map their primary electric utility network. Midland GIS Solutions provided Farmington a complete and accurate GIS program of their electric utility network and integrated this data and aerial photography into a user-friendly web-based GIS program for the City to efficiently manage and maintain their GIS data.
In 2013, 2015 and 2018, the City selected Midland GIS once again to GPS locate, inspect and map their sanitary sewer, water storm water networks, respectively. On the storm water network, Midland utilized LiDAR as a reference to acquire storm drainage between GPS points.   
Midland GIS Solutions utilized decimeter level accuracy (+/- 4 in) to field locate all features associated with the electric distribution network for the City. Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS methods were utilized to locate the sanitary sewer, storm water and water utility networks. This technology resulted in centimeter-level accuracy (+/- 2 cm) of GPS positions on utility features.
Today, the City has an accurately mapped system of their entire utility infrastructure, complete with attribute and inspection data that can be utilized in engineering modeling projects.

Sgt. Bluff, Iowa

Project Goal:
To provide the City with a centralized and user-friendly GIS program that could be used to maintain the ongoing growth of the community and its utility needs in a manner that could include asset management.
Description:
Located just south of the Sioux City, IA metropolitan area, the City of Sergeant Bluff, Iowa has seen substantial growth in infrastructure, planning and zoning activities and the number of building permits, along with a boom in economic development and job creation in recent years. These factors contributed to the City’s need for a more accurate utility mapping program, as well as a centralized system to keep track of maintenance and operational activities. The City wanted a program that would be user friendly and ultimately provide accurate data to their engineers.
Midland GIS Solutions was selected by the City of Sergeant Bluff in 2013 to GPS locate and map their sanitary sewer, water, electric and storm water utility networks and develop a GIS program for use in utility maintenance and management. Midland utilized mapping-grade GPS technology to GPS locate electric utility features. Additionally, RTK Survey-grade technology was utilized to GPS locate sewer, water and storm water networks. Full inspections were conducted on the sewer and storm water networks.   
The City had maintained a large and fairly complete library of as-built drawings and paper maps prior to implementing their GIS program. However, the accuracy of this data was limited and the data was only viewable on one computer in the Public Works department. Today, Sergeant Bluff has an accurately mapped system of their entire utility infrastructure, complete with attribute and inspection data that can be utilized in engineering modeling projects.
All of the City’s utility GIS data was integrated into Midland’s Integrity web GIS platform and gives the City staff a secure and user-friendly application to easily access and update utility information.

Services

Doniphan County, Kansas

Project Goal:
To complete a countywide assessment of existing 911 GIS data and modify existing GIS data to meet the Kansas 911 Coordinating Council’s statewide model to meet Next Generation 911 (NG911) standards.
Description:
Midland GIS Solutions was selected by Doniphan County, Kansas to assess, amend, and verify the county’s digital 911 data, and implement it into their existing GIS and web-based mapping systems. The impetus of the project was the State of Kansas’ move towards a statewide, Next Generation 911 (NG911) system that will ultimately be part of a nationwide 911 data system being developed by Homeland Security. NG911 brings a consistent data model for 911 data that will exist in every county, across the country.
The project primarily consisted of adjusting all of the digital road centerlines to the latest available orthophotography, and matching the 911 address ranging and jurisdiction data to their MSAG (Master Street Address Guide) and to their existing, countywide 911 addresses. Likewise, all of the addresses in the county were reviewed, placed, amended, and defined to meet the Kansas 911 Coordinating Council’s newly-developed statewide Data Model. The final component involved matching jurisdiction boundaries to the digital roads and addresses. Ultimately, all of the counties in Kansas will have their data stitched together for a single, consistent, statewide NG911 system.
Detailed training and multiple assessments and reviews were involved throughout the project. Dozens of issues, drawn from hundreds of road and street segments, and thousands of addresses, were reviewed and resolved, both with Doniphan County personnel, as well as with the Kansas 911 Coordinating Committee. Research from fire district ordinances at the county level, to US Post Office issues at the state and national levels were employed towards providing the county with an accurate, and consistent, digital 911 data set for their emergency response applications.

St. Joseph, Missouri

Project Goal:
To provide exceptional GIS and utility mapping services through a “Master Agreement” for on-call GIS services to the City of St. Joseph.
Description:
Midland GIS Solutions has provided GIS and GPS services to the City of St. Joseph since 2003 and has successfully completed all requested services through three (3) concurrent “Master Agreements” for on-call GIS services awarded in 2003, 2007 and 2012.
For the City of nearly 80,000 people, Midland GIS Solutions leads in all contracted GIS projects, which over the years have included GIS website and mobile development and hosting, geodatabase design services, GPS locating and inspecting tens of thousands of utility features, GIS data conversion, consulting, special GIS projects for various departments and onsite training and technical support.
In 2009, Midland GIS Solutions was selected to perform a large scale sanitary sewer GPS, inspection and mapping project for nearly 9,000 manholes and combined sewer outfalls along the Missouri River. The City was under pressure by the EPA to evaluate their sewer infrastructure and make changes to their combined system. This project was key in providing them the information they needed.
Also in 2009, Midland GIS began work on a multi-phase MS4 storm water project. Initially, field crews GPS located and inspected storm water features at industrial sites along the Missouri River and later moved on to various watersheds throughout the City. Midland produced 3D terrain models to exhibit storm water runoff and the City issues work orders for additional survey and mapping projects each year to keep the storm water network updated.

NASA Langley Research Center

Project Goal:
To conduct a comprehensive GPS inventory of existing sanitary sewer and storm water infrastructure at the NASA Langley Research Center (LaRC) in Hampton, Virginia
Description:
Established in 1917, Langley is the oldest NASA field center in the Country and has an intricate network of underground utilities. Through a five (5) year contract with NASA Langley, Midland GIS Solutions was selected to provide Geospatial Services to LaRC and was awarded a special project to GPS locate, inspect and map the facility’s sanitary sewer and storm water infrastructure.
Utility features were located utilizing Real-Time Kinematic (RTK) GPS methods, resulting in centimeter-level accuracy of GPS positions and accurate elevations on sanitary sewer and storm water utility features. Midland collected attributes on all features using a custom data collection application on all field data collectors and also conducted detailed inspections on sewer and storm manholes, yielding information such as manhole depth, pipe size and type, condition rating, evidence of infiltration, rim elevation, and numerous others. Nearly 20 data fields are collected for each feature inspected.
Midland GIS created a geodatabase and unique feature class data layers for the networks GPS located. Inspection was incorporated and sewer and storm line segments illustrate flow direction, slope and exact length measurements. This data will be integrated into the internal GIS program for the NASA Langley facility.

Dallas Center, Iowa

Project Goal:
To provide Dallas Center with utility GPS mapping with centimeter accuracy of water, sanitary sewer and storm water networks so city staff can continue to provide its citizens with functional utilities.
Description:
The City of Dallas Center, Iowa began the partnership with Midland GIS Solutions in 2013 when the City contracted with Midland to locate and map the water network along with providing inventory and inspection to all features to set up asset management capabilities.
Since the City staff of Public Works felt more comfortable with print maps, Midland provided Dallas Center with two sets of bound 11×17 truck books and a full system wall map for staff to utilize both in the office or in the field. Both are a part of the standard deliverables provided by Midland at the end of each project.
Because Dallas Center was so pleased with the water network deliverables, the City was a repeat client in 2014 when they sought Midland for the same services for their sanitary sewer infrastructure. The field data was collected by Midland with the same accuracy as the water network (within two centimeters) and truck books and large wall maps were provided to Dallas Center. In 2019 Dallas Center again contracted with Midland to map and inspect their storm water infrastructure.
Today, Dallas Center has accurate mapping of all three utility networks with printed maps for both office use as well as in the field. Having pinpoint accuracy of all utility features is important to the Public Works staff who are responsible for the three networks that include nearly 3,000 assets across the span of 2,900 acres.

Detroit Lakes Public Utilities

Project Goal:
Assist the City of Detroit Lakes, MN in migrating from their existing utility CAD program by accurately GPS locating their utility infrastructure and developing a comprehensive GIS program with web-based and mobile solutions.
Description:
In 2015, Detroit Lakes, MN selected Midland GIS Solutions to take over their CAD conversion project to GIS map their utilities. Over the course of several months, Midland GIS Solutions was able to GPS locate and attribute all of the utility features associated with the sanitary sewer, water, and primary electric networks throughout the City. Midland’s professional field staff also conducted thorough inspections of the City’s sanitary sewer network and incorporated this data into the GIS program.
An Integrity GIS website was created with mobile capabilities for the City to easily view, analyze and edit/update utility data within the GIS program. This project allowed the city to complete several years of their GIS plan in a matter of months. City officials in this thriving community now have the ability to analyze and query utility features and attributes, forecast short and long term maintenance activities, and provide accurate data to engineers, while improving efficiencies in responding to sewer overflows, water main breaks, and other maintenance needs.

Putnam County, FL

Project Goal:
Incorporate all parcel dimension annotation into the county’s existing GIS database.
Description:
Putnam County, Florida was in need of a way to maintain their parcel data, and contracted with Midland GIS Solutions based on qualifications in 2015 to assist in providing parcel maintenance services. Midland GIS also set the county up with an online Property Change Form website as a way to upload deeds, surveys and other images and documents to the same website. Each parcel ID can also be linked to the county’s GIS as a way for department staff to quickly reference a parcel to the information.
Since their initial contract in 2015, Putnam County has annually sought services from Midland GIS that include ongoing parcel maintenance and updates, dimension annotation in the county’s parcel fabric and parcel dimension projects in the county’s parcel fabric to rectify any inaccuracies in the county’s data. The project includes over 700,000 existing lines of annotation.
Today, Putnam County meets all regulations and requirements set by the Florida Department of Revenue for a county to have correctly mapped parcel dimensions for accurate tax assessment.

Ottawa, Kansas

Project Goal:
Overhaul the City’s in-house GIS program by creating a new, clean geodatabase and collect accurate GPS locations and attribute information on utility features to be integrated and mapped.
Description:
When the City of Ottawa, Kansas realized a need to revamp their utility GIS program, they selected Midland GIS Solutions to begin GPS locating and mapping their water system, along with meters, and also to implement and host an Integrity GIS website. Midland GIS developed a foundational geodatabase that would be able to house the City’s various utility networks on a centralized server allowing for future maintenance of the GIS data as well as asset management activities.
From 2013 through 2015, Midland completed the water network, and was then contracted to locate and map the sanitary and storm sewer systems, and then the primary and secondary electric networks. Midland utilized survey grade (RTK) GPS technology (+/- 2 cm) to locate the water, storm sewer and sanitary sewer networks. Mapping grade techniques (+/-4 inch) were used in the GIS survey of the electric network. Today, the city manages all of their GIS information on the Integrity GIS website with mobile capabilities where they can easily view, analyze, edit, maintain and manage their GIS data.

Cedar Falls, Iowa

Project Goal:
Conduct a comprehensive GIS Needs Assessment for Cedar Falls of existing data, which was being maintained in various formats by different departments, and create a unified and central GIS program for the various city departments to use.
Description:
The growing City of Cedar Falls, Iowa was seeking a solution to manage the geospatial data being maintained in various formats by different departments. The city of more than 41,000 residents did not have a centralized GIS program, and much of the existing information that needed to be converted consisted largely of hard copy maps and miscellaneous CAD files. What GIS data layers Cedar Falls did have needed to be consolidated into a single geodatabase for easy management and maintenance.
Midland GIS Solutions was hired by the City of Cedar Falls to conduct a comprehensive Needs Assessment of existing data and provide a detailed action plan for the city to move forward with a citywide GIS program. Midland GIS was selected because of the firm’s experience in consulting and GIS development services for cities and utilities throughout the Midwest.
Midland GIS scheduled a series of meetings with city personnel and stakeholders to first conduct an on-site review of current hardware and software being utilized by the city. Midland GIS then reviewed existing spatial data and took an inventory of all hard copy maps, existing GIS and tabular data and CAD files. Following the data inventory process, Midland GIS reviewed the city’s procedures for collecting and maintaining land-based information. This process allowed Midland GIS to better understand daily processes and workflows as well as different mechanisms to track work orders, maintenance procedures and management of equipment and facilities. All of this information was reviewed and analyzed to better understand the most effective way to develop a comprehensive GIS program.
A final report was presented to, and accepted by, the City of Cedar Falls to move forward with their GIS project. Based on the recommendations included in the Needs Assessment report, the city made the decision to utilize a web-based and mobile solution to manage their GIS data and selected Midland GIS to develop an Integrity™ website. The city’s existing data has all been converted into an enterprise geodatabase so that authorized personnel can view, edit, manage and maintain valuable geospatial and utility data in a centralized environment.

Harrison County, MO

Project Goal:
Inspect and update all 911 map data and Master Street Address Guide (MSAG) database for the county.
Description:
In 2018 the Harrison County Commissioners met with Midland GIS Solutions to discuss the inaccuracies of their 911 map data that hadn’t been updated since its creation. Having been a client of Midland GIS since 2013, Harrison County administration was familiar with the professional services the firm provided, and contracted with Midland GIS in 2018. The contract was to run an inspection, and make updates to, the county’s existing 911 map data, roads centerline data, address points, Emergency Services Number (ESN) boundaries and MSAG database.
Cross-referencing the GIS data with the MSAG and ESN boundaries, Midland GIS linked both customer name and telephone number with the address point layer for complete 911 integration into the GIS. Midland GIS also field-verified over 800 addresses across the county to ensure the data layer’s accuracy.
Today, Harrison County has a web-based GIS that is secure and manageable by county department staff from any computer or mobile device. The 911 database also allows first responder entities pinpoint accuracy when finding a 911 address point. Midland GIS provides all ongoing 911 map maintenance services to the county.

Topeka Kansas

Project Goal:
GPS locate, inspect, and re-map the City’s storm water system so that the City of Topeka could begin to separate their combined sanitary sewer and storm water features.
Description:
Midland GIS Solutions was selected based on qualifications to conduct a large-scale GPS collection and inspection project in the City’s three (3) largest drainage districts. Utilizing RTK (survey grade) GPS methods, Midland GIS located the City’s storm water system and collected attribute data for manholes, inlets, junctions, boxes and outfalls. GPS field staff also collected combined sewer utility features and provided various condition assessment ratings for the sewer manholes.
Midland’s technical staff created a utility geodatabase, integrated aerial photography and county GIS data, and also inserted new GIS data into Cityworks®, the City’s asset management system. Midland utilized a “Facility ID” to link back to the Cityworks® program upon completion of each storm water basin. Midland developed the workflow for this aspect of the project to ensure a smooth transition between using the existing data and the newly collected data in the work order program to ensure valuable historical records remained intact.
In 2015, Midland GIS Solutions was awarded a second contract to GPS locate and map storm water and sewer features in the remaining eight (8) drainage basins. Midland’s professional field staff accurately GPS located more than 22,000 storm water and sanitary sewer features for this project.
