The city of Iola, Kansas is now up and running with their own web-based GIS program through a partnership with Midland GIS Solutions.
Based in southeast Kansas, Iola serves a population of over 5,300 and is responsible for maintaining several utilities for their citizens including gas, primary electric and sanitary sewer. The city is familiar with AutoCAD and had recently had the information integrated into GIS program. The city had originally planned to hire GIS staff to pinpoint the utilities, but the project got put on the back burner for a number of years.
Iola city administration sought Midland GIS Solutions in 2018 to GPS map all utilities and develop a GIS program. This program would allow their many departments to create and edit work orders, develop workflow shortcuts and generate / customize utility system reports.
Understanding Iola’s need to have a GIS program that is easily accessible for any department from anywhere, Midland GIS’ web-based GIS through Integrity allows unlimited users without the need to purchase multiple licenses. Now departments can access, edit, manage and analyze data from both the office or in the field thanks to HTML5 for mobile capability.
Today, Iola not only has pinpoint accuracy with their utility feature data, but the added value of asset management through attribute data collection from Midland GIS. All of this data, and more, can be found on the city’s Integrity site. The GIS serves as a long-term solution to the city’s utility infrastructures needs when it comes to budgeting and scheduling network rehab or replacement projects, or the day-to-day operations such as work orders or analyzing reports.
Midland GIS has implemented hundreds of programs similar to Iola’s across the Midwest, with dedicated GPS field experts and exceptional maintenance and support to make sure the project exceeds all expectations.
