The City of Winfield, Kansas recently contracted with Midland GIS Solutions for Sewer Condition Assessment work that is set for early 2020. The project is one of many methods the city is utilizing for ongoing maintenance of the infrastructure.

Utilizing Sewer Line Rapid Assessment Tool (SL-RAT) technology, Midland GIS is providing Winfield with a fast and affordable method for pinpointing line blockages and defects. This type of information can better prioritize maintenance by city staff and allows for more effective planning and budgeting for rehab work.

SL-RAT inspections gather signal information through gravity mains and measure sound capture and degradation.  This technology, which is approved by the EPA for sewer maintenance, grades the gravity main segments on a scale of 1-10 in order to prioritize work and avoid emergency situations.

The Winfield Wastewater Collection System personnel maintain over 60 miles of sanitary sewer lines spanning an infrastructure that includes 14 lift stations and provides services to 4,600 customers. Over the last several years the city has worked on sewer line repair and replacement projects of the aging infrastructure in order to correct deficiencies and comply with environmental regulations. and control operational costs for the treatment plant.
