Bellevue Selects Midland GIS for Storm Water Project
June 1, 2016

May 1, 2016 –

Recently, Mount Pleasant Municipal Utilities (MPMU) in Iowa contracted with Midland GIS Solutions in an effort to improve their mapping and inventory resources. The board of directors at MPMU selected Midland GIS to develop an advanced GPS inventory of their electric and water utility networks and implement a GIS program. Mount Pleasant is the Henry County seat, located 50 miles south of Iowa City in Southeast Iowa. This municipal utility provides water and electric services to the population of around 9,000.

Midland GIS Solutions will incorporate Henry County’s existing GIS data to establish a reliable base map within the GIS program. Electric data collection will utilize decimeter accurate GPS field equipment to obtain locations of features such as substations, poles, street lights, pad mount transformers, junction cabinets and vaults within the City’s primary electrical distribution network. Water data collection will be obtained by Midland GIS field staff utilizing RTK survey-grade technology on valves and hydrants.

Once the project is complete, Mount Pleasant Municipal Utilities will maintain multiple layers of useful data in a centralized location, and manage a consistent and accurate database of spatial data in an environment that supports multi-user access and editing. Additionally, utility staff will be able to start electronic tracking of asset management activities all stored within the GIS. For more information, contact Erin Allen at (660) 562-0050.
